“The lane at Reybridge where we are situated used to be the main London to Bath road until the 17th century. Houses in Lacock had their front doors at the back and our cottages were no exception. We now greet our guests through a front door in the Victorian extension to the original cottages.”
Using Satnav - It is important to note the following two points: : If coming across the bridge at Reybridge, the Satnav will tell you that you have arrived some 200 yards before reaching our house. Continue up the lane away from the bridge to find Veitchly House (No. 34) on the right, with the wide elevated driveway. If coming from the A342 Devizes to Chippenham road, do not be tempted to turn down the turning pointing to Naish Hill. Passing on the hill is nearly impossible. Instead take the next turning south by the George PH.
From the north on the A350: Follow signs for Lacock, Melksham and Trowbridge at the roundabouts around Chippenham. Continue to the traffic lights (by the Whitehall Garden Centre). Turn left and immediately left again down the lane to the bridge. ** Turn right across the bridge and continue up the lane for about 1/3 mile, passing the farm, stables and cottages on the left. Veitchly House is the next house on the right hand side - it is white and stone, set slightly above the road and has a wide sloping driveway. Look for the number 34 on the wall below a light.
From the south on the A350: Drive past the brown sign for Lacock and continue to the traffic lights by the Whitehall Garden Centre. Turn right, and immediately take the lane on the left down to the bridge. Continue from ** above.
From the A342 Devizes to Chippenham road.: Turn opposite The George PH at Sandy Lane towards Lacock. (Do not turn at the sign for Naish Hill.) Follow this road to the top of Bowden Hill. Descend the hill and on reaching the Bell PH, turn right into Bewley Lane. Continue along this lane to the end. Turn left. Veitchly House (No. 34) is on the left in less than 200 yards, at the bottom of the dip and where the road curves.
From the National Trust Car Park: Turn right. Cross the bridges after the Abbey. After three or four houses on the left and opposite the Bell PH, take the left turn into Bewley Lane. Continue along this lane to the end. Turn left. Veitchly House (No. 34) is on the left in less than 200 yards, at the bottom of the dip and where the road curves.
The Google satellite view below shows our exact location and also the metalled path across the fields between the bridge at Reybridge and the edge of the village. The road from Mons Lane to our house is called Reybridge.
